that we decided to come back for a full 6-week class.

Finding Yourself in a Jazz Interpretation
with Comstock and Fasano

The class will focus on interpretation, storytelling, phrasing, rhythm, emotional truth, and individuality.
Rather than treating a jazz standard as a fixed piece of music, students can explore the arrangement and groove choices
that reveal who they are as performers: where to linger, when to surprise,
how to use silence, how to reshape a lyric, and how to respond instinctively to the music.

With Comstock’s experience as a pianist, vocalist, arranger,
and musical director and Fasano’s background as a celebrated jazz/cabaret vocalist,
the teaching partnership brings together musical craftsmanship and dramatic interpretation.
The emphasis is not merely on technique, but on the connection between the performer and the material.

At its heart, “Finding Yourself” suggests that jazz interpretation is an act of self-discovery:
What does this song mean to me? What can I bring to it that no one else can?
Students are encouraged to listen deeply, take risks, trust their instincts,
and develop a personal relationship with the lyric and melody.

This class is less about learning how to sound like a jazz singer
and more about learning how to sound like yourself through jazz.
